Upper Endoscopy:
Do I need this procedure?
Indications for an upper endoscopy (EGD)
include:
- Chronic heartburn
- Difficulty swallowing
- Regurgitation
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Unexplained (noncardiac) chest pain
- Upper abdominal pain
- Gastrointestional bleeding
- Iron deficiency anemia
- Weight loss
- Early satiety
- Follow up of Barrett’s esophagus (precancerous
changes due to heartburn)
- Follow up of a gastric ulcer
- Evaluate for celiac disease
